What makes Bali unique from the other areas in Indonesia is mostly for the Balinese ornaments or worship places. The place that is commonly used by Balinese people to pray and to do the Hinduism rituals is called Temple. The temple in Bali has become the commonplace where the Balinese people gather up with the family members and local communities to pray together, whether for celebrating Galungan Day, Kuningan Day, Nyepi Day, or the other religious occasions. Most of the temples are sacred and can only be visited by the Bali travel goers who wear the traditional clothes called “kamben”. Many temples become the main destinations for the Bali tour or excursion, such as Besakih Temple and Uluwatu temple.

Each temple has its own characteristic and anyone cannot find two temples resemble one to another. Each area in Bali also has their custom and uniqueness; somehow this has affected the shape of the temple itself. In addition to that, every detail that belongs to a temple is purposely designed with certain utility, thus everything has a meaning. Almost all the temples in Bali are designed with the high sense of art as the Bali vacation lovers know that the Balinese people are renowned for their artistic creations. On top of that, the existence of those sacred temples must be well-kept in order to preserve Bali from the things that may harm the sacredness of this paradise island.

The structure of a temple in Bali is divided into three main parts. The first section is the outer, the second section is the middle, and the last section is the inner courtyards. In these courtyards, the Balinese people can do the worship. The outer courtyard is what we recognize as the first courtyard. The gate or doorway to a temple is called Kelod. The Bali travel individuals can also join when there are religious ceremonies or big worship in the temples. At that time, the tourists can enjoy the temple dances as well as the traditional Balinese food. We call the Bale for the open sided gazebo with raised seating part and equipped with thatched roof.

The biggest and the most prominent temple in Bali Island is Besakih Temple. All the Bali travel goers who like having tour in Bali may reach this mother temple within 2 hours from Kuta area. On the way to Besakih, you will pass Sanur and then Klungkung regency. Besakih Temple is also situated on the west of Mount Agung which is also known as the most sacred place for Balinese Hinduisms. If you wish to make your vacation in Bali complete and impressive, then you should arrange to visit this place. One tip for you, it will be better to visit Besakih in the evening since during the day, this place is always crowded with the tourists.
